I've had a terrible day with my Powerbook, trying to load Garritan Orch Strings. The drive just click, whirs, clunks and bangs and then spews the disc out. Does the same with my NI B4 so I'm organ-less at the mo (very painfull). Other sample CD's seem to still work ok.

Anyone else had similar problems and, more to the point, do you know how to fix it?

Cheers

MrF

Hi MrF,
sorry I can't give a solution, but something similar happened to our G4 500 on Monday,
with serious consequences.
Some cd's loaded fine, some just spun in the drive forever, others were spat out after 30secs or so.
It would still play dvd disks though.
So I re-installed as a last resort Monday evening. Half-way through it stopped.
Yep the cd/dvd drive packed up mid reinstall.
Needless to say this was the worst possible time for it to die.
So at the moment we're computer-less.

I'd certainly try cleaning the cd disks very carefully.
It could be that the cd lense is also dirty.
Maybe one for the tech-perts to have a look at.
Simon.

Sounds strange that some discs work and others don't. Did these discs ever work on this Mac? Do they work in another Mac? Hmm...

You could always borrow an external drive from somewhere, at least so you could keep working until the problem is fixed.
